CATÁLOGO DE LA COLECCIÓN

Museo Carmen Thyssen Málaga

This catalogue offers an in-depth survey of the museum's permanent collection. Like the collection, it is divided into four sections (Old Masters, Romantic Landscapes and Costumbrismo, Précieux Style and Naturalism, and Fin-de-Siècle Art) and includes biographies of the 92 featured artists.

Through 222 works, this abundantly illustrated tome reviews the principal genres of 19th and early 20th-century Spanish painting, as well as a small selection of works by old masters, most notably Francisco de Zurbarán. Andalusian painters of the 19th century are especially well-represented, although the catalogue also includes works by renowned artists from across Spain, such as Mariano Fortuny, Joaquín Sorolla, Darío de Regoyos, Julio Romero and Ignacio Zuloaga.

Each work is explained in a commentary written by an expert on the subject, as well as a specific bibliography and exhibition history. Fifty prestigious authors—museum directors, curators, university professors and lecturers, and scholars—contributed to this publication, thereby ensuring the accuracy and rigour of its content. The catalogue also includes the latest additions to the collection.
