SOROLLA, CATALOGO RAZONADO

Colección de pintura del Museo Sorolla. Volúmen 1

English edition of the first volume for the revised Catalogue Raisonné of Sorolla´s work.

Sorolla’s painting output encompasses 4,200 works in oil, watercolor and gouache. Blanca Pons-Sorolla, artist´s great-granddaughter , has spent more than three decades recording, studying and systematically cataloguing this vast oeuvre and organizing it into a chronological catalogue raisonné.

This first volume´s publication, dovetail with the reviewing of Sorolla´s work, garnering international recognition through the monographic expositions at the National Gallery of London and the National Gallery of Ireland in Dublin.

The need to revise the Museo Sorolla’s catalogue led the publication of the catalogue raisonné to start with the important set of works that this institution protects, which are essential to understanding the artist from Valencia. Preliminary volume includes not only almost 1,300 paintings from the museum but also an exhaustive biographical timeline of the artist, a general updated bibliography on the painter, a list of his exhibitions and a methodological introduction on how his paintings were catalogued. Consequently, this book will serve as the reference volume for the rest of Sorolla’s catalogue raisonné.
