Catalogue of the group exhibition that surveyed the "summer holidaying" phenomenon through an evocative selection of works by Monet, Boudin, Sorolla, Picasso, Fortuny, Cézanne, Zuloaga, Hopper and others. With texts by the curator, Lourdes Moreno, and, on the subject of early photography, María de los Santos García Felguera.
The exhibition, which reviewed the history of the sea and the beach as a recreational destination since the 19th century, was divided into five thematic sections: Settings, On the Beach, Bathers, Portraits and Sailing. In the catalogue, each of the more than sixty works in the show is accompanied by a brief commentary to help readers understand them better. The publication also reproduces all 25 of the photographs displayed in the museum's Grand Hall.
This richly illustrated volume, 114 colour reproductions, offers an entertaining and relaxing survey of summer holidays as depicted by some of the greatest masters in art history.
