GUSTAVO BACARISAS

1872-1971

This monograph, published by the Provincial Council of Seville as part of the Arte Hispalense [Sevillian Art] collection, delves into the life and work of the artist Gustavo Bacarisas, one of Seville’s most fascinating painters in the first half of the 20th century.

Best known for his expressive use of colour, Bacarisas is represented in the permanent collection of the Museo Carmen Thyssen Málaga. His academic training, a life linked to Rome, Paris and London, and his knowledge of Impressionism and the early avant-garde movements make his oeuvre an interesting blend of tradition and modernity.

In this enjoyable read, the author Manuel Castro Luna, a native of Seville, presents the results of the research conducted for his doctoral thesis on this Gibraltarian artist under the supervision of Professor Pérez Calero, who also authored the foreword.
