A 19th-century Spanish painter and illustrator, Jiménez Aranda was a disciple of Antonio Cabral Bejarano, Eduardo Cano and Manuel Barrón. His works were received with admiration and interest in France, and as a result he moved to Paris in 1881. He returned to Spain in 1890 and lived in Madrid and Seville, the city where he died.

Juan Fernández Lacomba, a painter and art historian, studied at the University of Seville and is a fellow of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of Santa Isabel de Hungría. Author of numerous articles, publications and essays, he has curated several major monographic exhibitions on Sevillian painters of the 19th and 20th centuries.
